“In different ways, I look for the common thread that will lead me to the subject. In my early days, I experimented with almost all mediums, watercolor, ink, dry pastel, gouache, oil, charcoal and finally acrylic, a medium that I adopted definitively and to which on occasion I add mixed mediums. I also explored textile sculpture. Whatever medium I use, paper, raw canvas or coated with any medium, I let instinctive creation invade me from which the pictorial language emerges. The woman and the many roles she has been called upon to play for centuries, the love I have for children and the family, all influence my imagination. Beyond doubt, they are my favorite subjects. The elements that make up the painting provide an anecdotal character to the composition. For me, everything is a pretext to tell a story, whether visual or literary.”

Claudette Poirier has been involved for many years in various groups of visual arts artists such as the « Atelier du Geste » in Montreal where she obtained the organization’s Charter; she is also one of the founding members of the Artishow Group, where she worked for 5 years as the group’s administrative assistant, more particularly during the « Festival des Arts du Village » event in 2002; it is as secretary that she became involved in the AAPARS Board of Directors; later, for ten years, for the Arts visuels Roussillon group, where she held the positions of president, vice-president, and administrator of the Board of Directors.

She sits on the Committee for the Implementation of a Cultural Policy in Saint-Constant. More recently as vice-president and secretary of the Cercle des poètes de la Montérégie where she has been a member since 2011. As part of the activities of Arts visuels Roussillon, in 2008, she created the event « Mille mots en images » which brings together the time of an evening, visual artists and poets whose objective is to highlight the vision of each. In March 2010, to highlight the horror that occurred at École Polytechnique, she created, with the participation of various staff and students, a collective work of 5′ x 8′ entitled, « Jamais je n’oublierai le 6 décembre 1989 ». In 2011, on Women’s Day, this work was exhibited at the Speaker’s Room of the House of Commons in Ottawa, in tribute to the victims and in support of the ‘Poly remembers’ bill that fights to ban handguns and campaigns for a gun registry. In December 2010, chosen by the Société nationale des Beaux-arts (SNBA), she was part of one of the two Delegations of Canada and her work « Parfum d’iris » was selected and exhibited at the Salle Le Nôtre of the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. On February 28, 2011, then BLOC MP Carole Freeman paid tribute to her in the House of Commons in Ottawa for her involvement in the arts and her body of work. Her works are part of public and private collections. As a professional artist, she is a member of the R.A.A.V., Culture Montérégie and the Cercle des poètes de la Montérégie.
